Overview:

The Tavares Public Library is seeking a Story Time Helper. This unpaid, volunteer position will act as an assistant to the Youth Services Specialist by providing assistance with the weekly and monthly story time programs. The ideal candidate should have a background in preschool story time and have an understanding of children, early literacy, and public libraries.

Duties:

Assist the Youth Services Specialist with the weekly and monthly story time programs. Story Time activities may include {but not limited to} reading books to preschool aged children, singing songs with preschool aged children, distributing and collecting story time materials, assisting the Youth Services Specialist with flannel board activities, craft activities, and story time preparation and clean-up.

Job Requirements:

Must be able to interact with children ages 5 and under and their nurturers

Must love to sing, dance, read books, and make crafts with children ages 5 and under and their nurturers

Possess an understanding and enjoyment of both children and public libraries

Must be dependable

Must be patient

Have a fun, flexible, and cheerful attitude

Retired librarians and school teachers are encouraged to apply.
