Horses provide healing to our many students with functional diversity (special needs). During a lesson we need up to three volunteers per rider. One horse handler and two sidewalkers. A horse handler is someone who works directly with the horse and a sidewalker is someone who works with the student to make sure they are safe and to help the instructor should they need it. We also need help with feeding, scooping poop, and grooming. We are asking for a minimum of and 1.5 hours a week. We currently have lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.
You do not have to have horse experience to join our herd, and any age is welcome. We do ask if you are under the age of 14 that a parent come to supervise. To become a volunteer please send me a message and we will make a time for you to come visit.

Mission Statement
Nestldown Therapeutic Riding Center, located off Summit and Old Santa Cruz road is looking for reliable volunteers committed to our mission. Our mission is to work with people who have functional diversity otherwise known as special needs, and teach them how to ride horses. The benefits of therapeutic riding include improved posture and balance, stronger muscles, cognitive improvements, improved hand-eye coordination, improved fine and gross motor control, enhanced communication skills, increased self-confidence and self-esteem and new problem solving skills. Many riders experience a freedom of motion and ability they simply do not or cannot enjoy in other aspects of their lives.
