ORGANIZATION: Friends of Nevada Wilderness

Give back to our backyard wilderness, Mt Rose! Join us as we replace and fix the informational kiosks at Hunter Lake Road. The new kiosks will hold an updated Mt Rose Wilderness map, important safety information, leave-no-trace info, and other relevant information.

The Hunter Lake road is a popular trail for Jeep and rock crawling enthusiasts, and we are currently looking for volunteers to help mark designated routes and restore areas of trespass to their natural state. Friends of Nevada Wilderness can provide transportation for volunteers from our office located in Sparks, NV.

Mission Statement

Friends of Nevada Wilderness is dedicated to preserving all qualified Nevada public lands as wilderness, protecting all present and potential wilderness from ongoing threats, educating the public about the values of and need for wilderness, and improving the management and restoration of public wild lands.

Description

Are you interested in volunteering outside, exploring remote wild lands, taking care of your local public lands, making friends? Join Friends of Nevada Wilderness on a volunteer stewardship trip! Together we can keep our public lands and wilderness areas safe and clean. We would love to see you at our next stewardship project.

Friends of Nevada Wilderness organizes volunteer restoration trips to help wild landscapes recover from noxious weeds, illegal vehicle use, and other impacts (because official designations do not guarantee on-the-ground protection). Our volunteers also "adopt" areas to monitor their condition and advocate for their protection. Volunteers get to work with others to heal our wild places. These trips are fun, rewarding, and can be a great way to meet new Friends. All volunteers are welcome! We have volunteer opportunities for every skill level, ranging from getting out on the ground and pulling fence, picking up trash, naturalizing old roads, planting seedlings, monitoring wilderness, and yanking invasive plants to helping with outreach events and office tasks.

By helping citizens actively restore wild lands, we help build in them a greater sense of responsibility and stewardship.
