ORGANIZATION: Jumpstart Northern California

Jumpstart

Come volunteer with Jumpstart at our annual Read for the Record event at the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch! Volunteer will help set up, facilitate activities, then clean up. The activities are all themed to our Read for the Record Campaign book, Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora.

**10 volunteers needed total**

Jumpstart is an early education non-profit that works with under-served preschoolers to close the kindergarten readiness gap. Community outreach and events is just one way we work towards that goal.

Our Read for the Record campaign is an annual campaign to promote early childhood literacy. On this day we encourage people to read the same book to raise awareness and this years campaign book is Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora. It is a wonderful story about a generous woman who cooks a pot of red stew and shares it with her community.

About Jumpstart Northern California

Location:

235 Montgomery Street, Suite 1025, San Francisco, CA 94111, US

Mission Statement

Jumpstart is a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.

Description

Jumpstart aims to close the gap in educational achievement between children from low-income communities and their wealthier peers, before that gap appears. In pursuit of this goal, Jumpstart recruits and trains college students, called Corps members, to help preschool-aged children in low-income neighborhoods develop the language, literacy, and social skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Jumpstart inspires children to learn, young adults to teach and lead, families to become more involved in their children’s education, and communities to progress together.
