Volunteers are needed for RecycleFest!

RecycleFest is the largest community drop-off event for City of Manassas residents. More than 500 cars come through the gates of the Manassas Transfer Station to drop off their electronics, shredding and household hazardous waste.

Our residents are making a difference! When this event started in 2014, we collected 60 tons of recyclable materials annually. In 2018, we collected over 165 tons!

What time to arrive?

  • The event begins at 8am - but there is setting up to do and there are usually a few cars that turn up way too early that we need to keep safe until things kick off.
  • Please be there by no later than 7:30am
  • Please park in the small lot on the right - just past the scale house

What to wear?

This is an outdoor event - so be prepared for hot and sunny - or cold and wet

  • Wear boots or sneakers - no sandals or heels. You will be in an active work space with chemicals, trucks, cars, heavy items and machinery.
  • Bring a hat, baseball cap or sunglasses - it can be really bright and sunny
  • Bring gloves in case it’s cold.

What to bring?

  • We’ll have coffee, hot chocolate and water - but you may want to bring your own drink to keep you hydrated
  • We always have donuts ... you got to live a little and get some sugar in you to keep your energy up.
  • Snacks if you would like something to nibble on
  • Coolers and Ice are always welcome
  • Ear plugs or protectors if you are sensitive to noise
  • Your smile! This is a really positive even and residents are always happy to see us there.

What will I be doing?

  • We need volunteers to help with traffic control
  • Greeting residents and providing direction
  • Helping take boxes and bags of shredding out of cars
  • Helping take HHW materials out of cars
  • Helping take electronics out of carts

About Keep Manassas Beautiful

Location:

Mission Statement

Keep Manassas Beautiful is a citizen-led program designed to inspire and educate residents of the City of Manassas to take action every day to improve and beautify our community environment through the following actions: Foster wider awareness that putting an end to littering and improving beautification and waste reduction is a shared responsibility between residents and the City of Manassas. Work in collaboration with community organizations, businesses, homeowners associations, and other groups to empower volunteers to take action to help make the City of Manassas safer, cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing.

Description

In 2017, Keep Manassas Beautiful (KMB) became an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.

In 2018, our volunteers collected more than 2,925 lbs of trash through regular clean-up activities.

KMB works with volunteers who adopt streets, streams, parks, fields and historic sites. We have over 121 volunteer groups doing weekly, monthly and seasonal clean-ups.

Our belief is that everyone who enjoys our community should feel empowered to be a good steward of our beautiful Manassas. When residents, groups, and businesses volunteer their time by adopting a portion of our city and keeping it litter-free, they beautify our environment and improve the health and safety of our public spaces.

In exchange, for a commitment to undertake six clean-up activities per year, KMB supplies signs, litter pickers, vests, and trash bags to help with clean-ups and support volunteer activity.
