Do you live with depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar, or other mental health issues? This is a great opportunity to help end the silence surrounding mental health conditions!
For the 2019 - 2020 school year, NAMI-Washington County is looking for young adults (approximately 18-35 yrs. old) who are living well with a mental health condition and who would be excited to speak to teens in their health class. You would be part of a national effort to help break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues by presenting the NAMI Ending the Silence program.
We make presentations in almost all required health classes throughout Washington County. We need help to reach about 1,800 students in the upcoming school year.
As a speaker would be trained and mentored to present a short talk about your experiences. Training is a combination of on-line and in-person practice sessions.
For all presentations, you would be paired with a lead presenter who provides information using a Powerpoint presentation. Together you will provide resources for the teens to utilize if they recognize mental illness signs in themselves or their friends.
The program coordinator schedules all speaking engagements, taking your schedule into account. Your personal/work/school schedule should allow you some flexibility during a typical school day so that, with advance notice, you could be available to make no more than three presentations on a given day.
