The March 28, 1977 Beverly Hills Supper Club (BHSC) fire in Southgate, Kentucky gripped the Tri-State region like no event before or after. The BHSC fire was headline news for close to 10 years and news reports thereof for years after. In spite of how much news and how many people were directly or indirectly impacted by the BHSC fire; because the BHSC fire has never been permanently memorialized, growing numbers of youth and young adults have never heard of an event when 165 were lost, 200+injured and a rescue/recovery that included 500+.
Those statistics are even more alarming when it's understood and recognized that the victims and the rescue/recovery operation came from both sides of the Ohio River. The rescue/recovery maybe the biggest joint effort of any kind in the Tri-State yet youth know nothing about the BHSC fire.
Eileen Druckman made "The First Call" to the Southgate and Campbell County fire departments. "The First & Last Last Call" honors Ms. Druckman for first alerting the fire dept., and her years of suffering from the BHSC fire.
First & Last Call Volunteers help youth discover one of the most news covered events in Tri-State history, and as a result changed many building codes in the U.S.A. forever such as e.g. room occupancy, sounding fire alarms and using sprinkler systems. By helping youth discover the 1977 BHSC fire helps bring about permanent BHSC fire memorials by virtue of Living Memorial planters and student art planter tiles.
As a Last Call Volunteer you will travel to Tri-State schools and present info about what the Beverly Hills Supper Club was and meant to our region's history. Some of that info will include the 1977 Memorial Day weekend and aftermath. "The Last Call" Volunteer program helps bring about permanent BHSC fire Memorials by virtue of Living Memorials which will be presented to school art programs and schools as a whole, and inspire student art ALWAYS REMEMBERED ALWAYS HONORED planters and planter tiles.
