In preparation for the festival Art in Odd Places (AiOP) INVISIBLE 2019 is seeking volunteers for the upcoming annual public art festival curated by LuLu LoLo, featuring artists who are sixty years old and older - working solo or collectively with other older artists or in various forms of intergenerational collaboration: parent/child; mentor/protégé; partners; lovers; etc. Most of our artists will need help with carrying supplies and banners, installing and deinstalling their work, and/or extra performers to take part in their projects. In addition, volunteers are needed to hand out flyers, help artists and viewers navigate the festival route, and inform passerbys of the festival and artist projects. We are also looking
for help during the opening reception.
The position can be as demanding or as flexible as you want, any help is appreciated! The dates of the festival are October 17th-October 20th. The available working hours are 12-6 PM each day divided into 3 hour shifts (some additional time may be added when helping install and deinstall artists projects, but this should not take long). In addition to the festival the Promenade of Visual Flâneurs features artists who will saunter and stroll with their paintings, sculptures, and costumes en mass the entire 2.2-mile length of 14th Street on Saturday, October 19 & Sunday, October 20 from 2-4pm. We may ask for some help with artists a few weeks/days before the festival begins depending on what artists need. Please respond to this email listing roles/dates you'd like to participate in the festival.
Though this is a volunteer position, it's a great opportunity to get experience working in a festival and as an artist assistant. You'll also be invited to the opening reception/other VIP events, and you name will be added to a list of volunteers on the official AiOP website.

Mission Statement
Art in Odd Places aims to stretch the boundaries of communication in the public realm by presenting artworks in all disciplines outside the confines of traditional public space regulations. AiOP reminds us that public spaces function as the epicenter for diverse social interactions and the unfettered exchange of ideas.
Description
Art in Odd Places (AiOP) presents visual and performance art in unexpected public spaces. AiOP also produces an annual festival along 14th Street in Manhattan, NYC from Avenue C to the Hudson River each October.
Art in Odd Places (AiOP) began as an action by a group of artists led by Ed Woodham to encourage local participation in the Cultural Olympiad of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. In 2005, after moving back to New York City, he re imagined it as a response to the dwindling of public space and personal civil liberties - first in the Lower East Side and East Village, and since 2008, on 14th Street in Manhattan. AiOP has always been a grassroots project fueled by the goodwill and inventiveness of its participants.
