These shifts can be done any day of the week at any time we are open. For any volunteer that can be here on a regular basis, our Dog Mentor, Jo, will try to coordinate shifts with you to ensure the dogs are taken out multiple times a day by various staff and volunteers. Some duties included are:

  • Taking dogs for walks or for play time in outdoor kennels
  • Ensuring their blankets and kennels are clean before putting them back into their kennel
  • Refilling water as needed
  • Teaching the dogs good manners while on a leash and while interacting with people
  • Grooming dogs to make them more comfortable and cleaner for adopters
  • Provide bios to our Volunteer Coordinator for use on social media and websites

Description

The purpose of the Humane Society is to provide humane care for all lost, abandoned, abused, neglected and unwanted companion animals in Scott County and to adopt these animals into caring, responsible homes. In Scott County alone, we provide shelter and care to over 3000 lost, abandoned and unwanted animals each year.

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 16
  • Orientation or Training
  • We offer a mentor program. A minimum of 10 hours or 3 visits within 3 months is required to complete the program. Our great mentors will train you in all procedures and make you feel comfortable so that your volunteer time with us is a success!
