ORGANIZATION: High Tech Kids
Please visit the new page to apply.
Teams of Junior High and High Schools are working on robots to complete this year’s FTC Challenge. Now they’re ready to share what they’ve done and run their robots at a High Tech Kids FIRST Tech Challenge Tournament. Come be inspired by what young people can accomplish.
We need Judges, Referees, Robot Inspectors, and other Field Staff for two tournaments, one Saturday and one Sunday.
Judging for FIRST Tech Challenge can be technical and non-technical. There are various awards team can receive for engineering, design, community outreach, and sportsmanship.
The Judges role is to
- Interview and observe teams in the Judging rooms,
Pit areas, and on the playing field - Review team's Engineering Notebook
- And participate on a Judge Panel to decide team awards recipients for the 9 award
Referees officiate robot matches, tabulate scores, and encourage teams in a fun, energy charged environment.
These roles are trained and do require extra online training.
If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, please contact Norm at norm@hightechkids.org or visit https://hightechkids.org/volunteer for more information.
In addition to these opportunities, tournaments are held at several venues (typically schools) around the Twin Cities from November through February. Volunteer for one or more tournament based on your interest and availability.

Mission Statement
High Tech Kids delivers fun, hands-on science, engineering and technology programs and events that inspire Minnesota kids in their formative years. We inspire kids to BUILD confidence, CREATE opportunities, and THRIVE in the 21st century.
Description
High Tech Kids is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that supports the Minnesota FIRST LEGO League Explore, FIRST LEGO League Challenge and Minnesota FIRST Tech Challenge each fall/winter. Through these programs we train, teach and empower student teams, coaches and volunteers.
With the help of more than 700 volunteers, we work hard to offer high energy, fun, team-based programs and competitions that celebrate science and technology. Kids learn how to work together, solve real-world problems and become leaders. To support High Tech Kids is to invest in our children, to share our passion, and to inspire these future innovators, leaders, collaborators, and problem solvers for the 21st century.
High Tech Kids now serves over 7,500 kids across Minnesota each year. Since our inception in 1999 we have helped over 67,000 students discover the fun in science and technology.
High Tech Kids’ programs, training, research workshops and competitions provide adult volunteers the opportunity to share their enthusiasm and expertise with young people in their community. These volunteers encourage kids to explore future STEM career possibilities.
