Every Tuesday and Thursday during the school year, 4th grade students at Burns Elementary who are reading below grade level gather to be mentored one on one in reading and writing.
Each student receives prescription based lesson plans prepared by a reading specialist, and are matched with a volunteer mentor. Volunteer mentors are trained in delivering the prepared lesson plans and are given continued support from our reading specialists throughout the mentoring process.
We are looking for mentors who can commit to serving an hour or two on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 10am-12pm to mentor a child who is behind in their reading and need a little extra help during this school year.
