We are looking for Volunteers to teach computer skills to senior adults using Zoom or similar platforms.

Sorry, but at this time we are only able to consider volunteers who reside in South Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach).

In today’s environment of social distancing, SoFIA has launched an innovative remote technology training pilot program for older adults: SoFIA Tech Connect. Through the use of virtual training, volunteers will train older adults on how to use Zoom, FaceTime, Facebook, and similar programs, providing the tools to connect with friends, family and the community. After the initial training on how to use virtual technology, Instructor and student will develop a lesson plan using hundreds of on-line tech training courses for older adults.

Participation in Tech Connect requires a minimum of 3 hours of volunteer engagement/student participation for 4-6 weeks.

Requirements: Access to a PC/Laptop/Chromebook/tablet (Android or Apple) with camera and microphone. Must enjoy working with older adults, have patience, ability to think on the spot and inspire to help others to improve their social and economic security. Have skills to teach basic word processing, online searches, sending and receiving emails, navigating online portals, online safety practices, using google maps and YouTube. Preferred Requirements: Volunteers who are 55+ years, have teaching experience and familiar with Gmail.
