We graciously ask for assistance sorting produce and bagged food items to distribute to community members. This year marks a very special year for our collaborative because we will be supporting a citywide open streets event in the City of El Monte and South El Monte, California!
Day of event we will be giving away fruits and vegetables similar to a food bank or pantry. Prior to the start of the event we will be sorting through boxes of food to take out produce that can’t be eaten, taking inventory and setting aside some to give out throughout the day, as well as breaking down cardboard boxes. We will need help packing bags with food items and giving them out in cycles. We will also need help assisting people to plant vegetable seeds in plots in our garden. Training will be given 2 hours prior to the start of the event.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to create and sustain a college-prepared culture in the El Monte region and surrounding communities. The El Monte Promise Foundation is an educational non-profit that unites the community's efforts to create a seamless cradle-to-college and beyond pathway in the communities of El Monte, South El Monte, and Rosemead. We work to support parents, students, community leaders, and educators on every step of the journey. We support our community through our partnerships with the local K-12 School Districts, community colleges and universities, governments, businesses, non-profit organizations, and private foundations to actively coordinate systems and mobilize resources for the educational benefit of local students and their families. Our initiatives are Community Engagement, Cradle-To-College Pathway, and Financial Literacy and Education. All of our programming and projects lie within these three initiatives.
Description
Within the community engagement initiative we seek to directly engage families, parents, local organizations or businesses, educators, and students. We actively attempt to build capacity through cultivated leadership with our parents and students, and create sustainable authentic relationships and partnerships with organizations or entities serving our area. Currently this initiative can be further delineated into youth, parent, Asian Pacific Islander (API), and Latino/a/x engagement. Of course the programming lying within this initiative depends on what groups that are high-need come into our area of service.
The cradle-to-college pathway is an initiative where we work to ensure that students of all ages have the tools, support, and resources to pursue higher education to successful completion. This means that we actively support our students through partnerships with our local educational systems to ensure that we support students in soft skills and more on their journey.
Within our financial literacy and education initiative, we support our local communities and residents in their understanding of financial topics, and help to prepare families and students to understand and bear the cost of a college education. We partner with local financial institutions to give workshops to the community on topics like budgeting, paying for college, FAFSA, investing, and more. Within this initiative we have our Scholars Savings Program in which we help local families sign up their child for a state 529 (or college savings) account.
