Mission Statement
Our mission is simple. To promote and improve cardiovascular health, quality of life and longevity for all - we exist to create a world without heart disease. It's an audacious goal, but one that we accept and strive for every day. We pursue our mission on many fronts. Foremost is our focus on scientific innovation and clinical research. We also believe that education is a powerful tool that can help reduce mortality rates, improve cardiovascular health and quality of life.
The foundation was established in 1982 by a group of cardiologists from the Minneapolis Heart Institute, who recognized that the finest heart care for patients needed to be supported by an enduring commitment to education and research.
Our mission is supported by our physicians and members of the community through philanthropic giving. We hope you'll consider contributing to our goal of creating a world without heart disease.
Description
The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation is one of the nation's premiere cardiovascular research facilities. We are committed to improving heart health through research that evaluates leading-edge therapy and diagnostic methods. Our researchers seek improved methods to prevent, diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease with the goal of improving the quality of life for our patients.
At the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, we have established ten Centers of Distinction where we can focus on specific heart health issues. This innovative method of research allows us to appropriate the needed resources and provides clear boundaries for inquiries. Our Centers of Distinction have produced many significant advancements in patient care.
For example, our Level One program provided data to develop a standardized protocol for patients that present in the emergency room with an ongoing heart attack. Upon implementation, this protocol resulted in one of the highest survival rates in the country.
Our researchers also participated in establishing American College of Cardiology guidelines for the diagnosis of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and peripheral arterial disease as well as the guidelines for cardiovascular screening of athletes.
We are at the forefront of emerging stem cell technology. In fact, we have been designated by the National Institute of Health as a Cardiovascular Stem Cell Research Center, a distinction shared by only four other institutions.
The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation is constantly working to contribute to the global clinical and academic communities. Our researchers conduct over 100 studies annually and input information into 24 databases and registries. Additionally, Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation researchers have reported results in over 100 peer-reviewed publications and in more than 130 presentations at major conferences.
