Special Olympics Montana is looking for a Public Relations Coordinator in the Butte Area!

Primary Purpose
: The Public Relations Coordinator promotes Special Olympics athletes and events and works to raise awareness throughout the local Area. This position in collaboration with the Area Director is the primary contact for all media and is responsible for building sustainable relationships with local press and media.

Primary Duties:

  • Develop and maintain an accurate media contact list.
  • Represent the Area Special Olympics program to communities throughout the Area by establishing and maintaining an effective relationship with Area media.
  • Write Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and stories about Area events for distribution to media outlets (radio, television, press).
  • Take responsibility to write and produce a regular Area newsletter, and distribute to volunteers, athletes, AMT members, sponsors and supporters using a distribution list compiled with the help of all AMT members.
  • Be available to write and produce other printed materials and announcements, as needed, for Area Games, fundraisers, ALPs (Athlete Leadership Programs), family events, etc.
  • Provide appropriate acknowledgment and appreciation to major sponsors and supporters utilizing media connections when needed.
  • Ensure that all Area materials (i.e. logos, correspondence, t-shirts, signs, etc.) are using approved SOMT logos are in compliance with SOMT branding requirements.
  • Attend at minimum, 8 AMT meetings annually.

Experience/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire and willingness to foster relationships with media and press professionals.
  • Access to computer, internet and email.
  • Ability to work with groups, individuals and (SOMT) Special Olympics Montana staff.
  • Willing to learn about Special Olympics and the website.
  • Desire to serve with compassion, respect and patience.
  • Must be willing to complete a National Criminal Records Check.

COMPENSATION: Smiles, hugs, and lifelong friendship! This is a volunteer, non-paid position. Allowable expense reimbursements are available.
