Symphony Number One (SNO) is looking for a results-driven person who can guide our grant writing and corporate sponsorship operations. We are currently a small organization approaching our Fifth Anniversary, and are looking to expand our reach in the community as much as we can. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who can dedicate 15-20 hours per month to meet our goals.

SNO is Baltimore’s newest Chamber Orchestra dedicated to performing and promoting substantial works by emerging composers. Led by Music Director Jordan Randall Smith, Symphony Number One brings together great composers of the past, virtuoso performers of the present, and the leading compositional voices of the future. We have ambitious plans to position our orchestra as an innovating leader in social change using the power of the music of our time. SNO was recently named the Winner of The American Prize: Orchestral Performance, in recognition of our efforts.

Responsibilities:

Focus on identifying foundation and government grant opportunities for the orchestra.

Actively work and supervise:

  • Grant applications and requests
  • Acknowledgment of gifts
  • Tendering of required reports

Cultivate positive relationships with foundations and government agencies that support the arts

Interact with senior management and board members to identify prospects

Interact with civic leaders to forge positive partnerships

Cultivate corporate and foundation donors, increasing the orchestra’s potential to raise revenue through gifts and sponsorship of concerts, series, and special events.

Work with:

  • Senior management and board members to identify and solicit prospects
  • Marketing to develop sponsorship packages
  • All orchestra departments to guarantee compliance with sponsorship agreements and recognition in materials or at events

Establish relationships with:

  • Grant-making foundations and corporations,
  • Local and federal government agencies that provide arts funding

Reports to: Development Director

Requires:

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising
  • Familiarity with foundations and government agencies that support the arts
  • Familiarity with corporate marketing/sponsorship trends at local and national levels
  • Knowledge of the grant writing process
  • An ability to forge positive relationships that build a commitment to the orchestra

SYMPHONY NUMBER ONE is Baltimore's newest chamber orchestra, performing substantial works by emerging composers, alongside riveting masterworks, beloved classics, and a twist of pop. SYMPHONY NUMBER ONE brings together great composers of the past, virtuoso performers of the present, and the leading compositional voices of the future, creating electrifying concert experiences for all of Baltimore.

Praised by the Baltimore Sun, the orchestra was founded in 2015 . SNO has released two "must get" albums , and performed at Baltimore's inaugural Light City Festival . The orchestra was highlighted in Baltimore STYLE as "brazen...like an indie rock band", featured on the acclaimed television show MPT Artworks, and chosen for the "Category Buster" award by Baltimore Magazine for their Best of Baltimore 2016.
