ORGANIZATION: SYMPHONY NUMBER ONE

Symphony Number One (SNO) is looking for an energetic and engaging person who can head our development operations and expand upon our successes while providing new ideas for additional growth. Short-term emphasis will be placed on Crowdfunding and Social Media initiatives. We are currently a small organization approaching our Fifth Anniversary, and are looking to expand our reach in the community as much as we can. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who can dedicate 20-25 hours per month to meet our goals.

SNO is Baltimore’s newest Chamber Orchestra dedicated to performing and promoting substantial works by emerging composers. Led by Music Director Jordan Randall Smith, Symphony Number One brings together great composers of the past, virtuoso performers of the present, and the leading compositional voices of the future. We have ambitious plans to position our orchestra as an innovating leader in social change using the power of the music of our time. SNO was recently named the Winner of The American Prize: Orchestral Performance, in recognition of our efforts.

Responsibilities:

Help to build the orchestra’s capacity for the future

Plan and implement all fundraising activities including:

  • Annual fund drives
  • Corporate sponsorships
  • Endowment
  • Planned giving
  • Capital campaigns
  • Grant applications
  • New Crowdfunding and Social Media initiatives

Work closely with senior management and the board of directors to:

  • Determine goals and budgets for fundraising activities
  • Seek out additional funding opportunities

Interact with donors, businesses, and community leaders in cultivation of new prospects

Supervise staff and volunteers in the execution of fundraising initiatives

  • Provide schedule of fundraising campaigns and activities to SNO members, maintaining Development calendar
  • Provide framework and scaffolding for SNO members

  • Work with Communications Team to respond to donors, ask for support, etc.
  • Supervise appropriate thank you gifts
    • Written responses
    • Perks/Gifts

Program/Website recognition (with Communications Team and Publications)

Reports to: Managing Director, Board of Directors

Requires:

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising
  • Familiarity with resources and current research in fund-raising
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • An ability to lead the orchestra toward budgetary goals

SYMPHONY NUMBER ONE brings together great composers of the past, virtuoso performers of the present, and the leading compositional voices of the future, creating electrifying concert experiences for all of Baltimore.

Praised by the Baltimore Sun, the orchestra was founded in 2015 . SNO has released two "must get" albums , and performed at Baltimore's inaugural Light City Festival . The orchestra was highlighted in Baltimore STYLE as "brazen...like an indie rock band", featured on the acclaimed television show MPT Artworks, and chosen for the "Category Buster" award by Baltimore Magazine for their Best of Baltimore 2016.
