During planning of our 2020 Children's Festival of Stories, we are seeking readers/reviewers of children's books for possible selection for our April 2020 Festival.

We are asking Book Selection Committee applicants to make the following commitments:

  • read & complete a brief review (worksheet will be provided) of at least 5-7 children’s books (we provide the books); these would include board books, picture books, chapter books & middle reader books; of those you read we ask that at least 3 titles be middle reader books
  • read, complete & submit reviews between Monday, November 25, 2019 and Friday, December 30, 2019; reviews can be submitted via email
  • complete reading of each title within 2 weeks of receiving the book(s); books will be made accessible at our office location on South Pearl St. in Denver and/or delivery may be made as possible in the Denver Metro & surrounding areas
  • acknowledgement of compliance with our Code of Conduct (copy available)
  • submission, via email, of a brief (1 or 2 paragraphs) essay explaining why you are interested in joining the Selection Committee (prior to being chosen for Committee)

Description

Founded in July 2018, Books to Kids serves children, ages 0 to 12 years, in the Denver Metro area and environs.

Our goals include hosting the 3rd Children's Festival of Stories on October 7, 2023 as well as donating FREE, NEW books to elementary school children throughout the Denver Metro area. The festival is a day-long FREE event that features national, regional and local children's book authors & illustrators of board books, picture books, chapter books & middle grade novels. Our featured presenters offer book signings, panel discussions as well as meet-and-greet sessions with children and their families, educators, librarians.

An additional goal is to raise $15,000 to help fund future Festivals as well as Book Giveaways. If you are not available to volunteer time, please consider donating for future events at https://www.bookstokidsco.com/donate

  • Reading & review of these children's books would probably entail a few hours per week. We are not looking for a time commitment as much as a commitment to complete 5-7 titles/week with at least 3 of those titles being Middle Grade Chapter Books.
