"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in".

Mission Statement

Parents For Peace is a non-governmental public health nonprofit empowering families, friends, and communities to prevent radicalization, violence, and extremism.

Description

Parents For Peace addresses all types of extremism including neo-Nazi, white supremacist, radical Islamist, anti-Semitic, and other extremist movements. Parents For Peace created the first-ever national non-governmental helpline to help individuals concerned about extremism by providing support and resources. Created with guidance from experts at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and modeled after suicide helplines, the Parents For Peace helpline takes a public health approach to counter violent extremism, through non-governmental intervention and support.

Extremism and radicalization are typically viewed through the lens of national security and the criminal justice system. However, the rise and spread of extremist ideologies and movements is a complex public health challenge that requires a holistic approach. Parents For Peace provides education and support to families and communities with the goal of preventing radicalization before it leads to violence.
