Individuals who enlist in the Virginia Defense Force (VDF) will have an opportunity to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia under the command of the Adjutant General and the Governor of Virginia in Communications and Civil Security Support. There is no minimum enlistment term, but you must pass the US Army Height/Weight standards as well as a Background Check. Enlistment ages are from 16 (with parental consent) to 65. You must be a resident of the state of Virginia.

The Virginia Defense Force (VDF) is an all-volunteer, formal military organization. Its mission is to assist the Virginia National Guard in performing state missions as specified by the Governor.

Born in the earlie st days of our nation’s history, voluntary services by and for the citizens of Virginia was a cornerstone upon which our nation was built. Bringing diverse professional skills and talents, Virginians continue to unselfishly answer the call of their fellow citizens in times of crisis, disaster, emergency or need as members of the Virginia State Defense Force.
