Chinook Salmon, Steelhead Trout, and Pacific Lampreys spawn in local rivers and creeks, November through February. South Bay Clean Creeks Coalition volunteers count spawning Salmon, map the redds they establish, recover hatchery tags (from hatchery-raised fish) or otoliths (from wild-raised fish) from carcasses after the adults die, and note if Steelhead or Lamprey also spawn in or near Salmon redds. No experience necessary. Training consists of introduction to the life cycle of a Chinook Salmon, instruction in the monitoring activities and data recording, and scheduling of monitoring teams. Youth welcome though they will need an adult willing to volunteer with them to do the actual monitoring later.
