We are looking for volunteers who can assist us with the West Valley Memory Cafe in Surprise Arizona. This is a cafe geared for Caregivers of those with a loved one with Dementia or Alzheimer's. We provide a support group and a life enrichment activity for the person with the disease.

The Memory Cafe meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:30am-11:30am at the Salvation Army. Below is the assignments and tasks that we ask of our volunteers.
In order to become a volunteer, you will have to be onboarded through Banner Health, which will require about a 4-6 week process to be cleared to start. We also require our volunteers to be able to commit atleast a year to an assignment. Only serious inquires please.

PURPOSE

Under the direction of staff, provide friendly hospitality and compassionate/caring presence and assistance to participants in BSHRI Family & Community Services programs.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Make coffee and set out coffee service items (creamer, sugar etc.).

1. Set up participant check-in table.
2. Greet participants upon arrival with a friendly smile and warm welcome.
3. Assist participants with sign-in and name tags.
4. Assist participants with wayfinding and other hospitality needs.
5. Sit and interact with participants during the program as a friendly presence.
6. As comfortable, assist participants to focus attention during activities or request assistance from staff.
7. Clean up coffee pot and other supplies at conclusion of program.
8. Perform other duties as trained and requested.
9. Do not perform direct, hands-on patient/participant care or services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Adult, age 18 +.

1. Able to stand and walk as needed to perform functions during 3-hr. shift.
2. Able to interact pleasantly with others.
3. Able to maintain positive rapport with others.
4. Able to demonstrate compassion and care for others.
5. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal communication skills.
6. Able to take direction from staff
