Job Overview

The LPC Intern provides counseling services to children and adults who have been impacted by abuse and trauma, and provides administrative support to the Mental Health department.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provides individual, play, family or group therapy
  • Conducts regular assessments
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed
  • Assesses client functioning and creates individualized treatment plans
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of child abuse dynamics
  • Exhibits cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Maintains current and accurate case records
  • Assists clients in securing mental health and social services in the community
  • Is available 1-2 evenings per week
  • Participates in community and special events
  • Assists with general ECCAC operations

Serves as a Member of a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)

  • Communicates with members of the MDT, providing ongoing feedback regarding client progress/emotional state
  • Collaborates with MDT to work toward the mission of the ECCAC
  • Provides training and education to the team, and community, as assigned

Maintains Performance and Licensing Standards

  • Keeps therapeutic skills current through continuing education
  • Participates in quarterly regional peer reviews
  • Attends individual and group supervisions
  • Regularly reviews cases with Clinical Director
  • Maintains minimum professional liability insurance
  • Complies with ethical guidelines and rules of licensing board as well as state and federal law
  • Complies with all ECCAC Policies and Procedures

Physical Requirements

  • Travels for ongoing professional development, as required
  • Sits, stands, walks, bends, stoops, reaches, squats, and kneels, as required when working with children
  • Maintains therapy rooms and all therapy supplies
  • Lifts office materials

  • Desirable qualities include an excellent work ethic, professional ethics and behavior, dependability, good judgment, flexibility, a positive attitude, and an ability to work well with a variety of people from various disciplines.
  • Must pass required criminal and CPS background checks
Qualifications and Skills
  • Master’s Degree in mental health-related field from an accredited university
  • Has obtained a passing score on the National Counselor Examination
  • Professional counseling experience working with abused children and adolescents
  • Individual, play, family, and group therapy experience
  • Prior work with CPS, law enforcement agencies, and district attorneys’ offices preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Reads, writes, and speaks English fluently
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish, preferred

The Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization in Ellis County, Texas. The ECCAC responds to reports of child abuse and child sexual assault through a multi-disciplinary approach and provides family advocacy, forensic interviews, and mental health services for children and their families.
