Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Cascades Region

Please join the Red Cross and our Yamhill County partners in making the community of Lafayette safer by helping decrease the number of death and injury due to home fire with our smoke alarm installation event! The Red Cross will provide free smoke alarm installations and education to any home that requests them. The only way this is possible is through the power of our community volunteers. Please consider joining us for a one-day event with a tremendous, lasting impact.

When: Saturday, November 2, 2019 9:00 am-4:00 pm
Where: Lafayette Community Center, 133 Adams St., Lafayette OR ( Yamhill County)
Who: multiple mobile home parks & appointment around the area.
Why: The Red Cross Responds to an average of two home fires per day in the Cascades region (Oregon/SW Washington) making it the most common disaster we face. The Home Fire Campaign helps educate the community on the importance of having a working smoke alarm and being prepared with a plan of what to do in the case of a home fire.

To accomplish our goal, we will form teams of three with the following roles to choose from:

Installer - Uses power drill and step-stool to install alarms in pre-designated areas.
Documentor - Tracks statistics of # of people reached in household, alarms installed, and other demographics.
Educator - Covers a checklist of topics about fire safety and general disaster preparedness with the household. Provides resources to help create fire escape plan.

All training and resources will be provided to volunteers, no previous experience required.
Ages 16+ welcome to attend. (16-17 years old must have parental chaperone to enter homes)

We will begin training at the Lafayette Community Center at 9 am, so please show up by 8:45 am to get checked in and assigned a role.

Lunch and snacks will be provided to participants.

Email volunteer.cascades@redcross.org or call 541-414-7576 for more information. We hope to see you there!
