The Northeast Georgia History Center is developing Gainesville Reads, a free, one-on-one tutoring program for students who struggle with reading. Qualified tutors will mentor students for one hour each week in literacy through educational computer programs, reading time, and activities for the specific struggles of the student. This program is based on a well-established literacy program supported by Yale University with 15+ years of successful results in increasing literacy among students K-12.

We are starting a small pilot version of this program in January of 2020 with 15 students in grades 1st-3rd. Volunteer Tutor candidates will be interviewed and receive training prior to tutoring.

This is a great opportunity to help a child in your community to become a confident reader and leader!
