Mission Statement
To promote the increased public awareness understanding and appreciation of our environment through educational programs, exhibits and publications that focus on our natural, cultural, and historical resources, the Osborne Homestead Museum encourages active participation in the resolution of issues to improve environmental quality for Connecticut residents.
Description
The Osborne Homestead Museum and Kellogg Environmental Center are education facilities of the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection. We actively seek volunteers who can support our mission of providing programs, exhibits, and environmental information to Connecticut residents.
Adjacent to the rolling hills and open meadows of Osbornedale State Park, Osborne Homestead Museum encompasses the house and grounds of the former Frances Osborne Kellogg Estate. Originally constructed in the mid-1800’s, the house was enlarged and completely remodeled in the Colonial Revival style during the 1920’s. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, its restored interior now displays the original contents of the estate, which constitutes a significant collection of antiques and fine arts.
The Osborne Homestead Museum is currently seeding volunteers for its winter holiday tour season starting in November. Volunteer programs include tour guides, decorating assistants, and greeters.
