Our residents love animals! If you have a gentle dog who loves people and other pets, we need you!
No certification required, just a gentle dog who is able to:
-Walk calmly on a leash (no pulling)
-Perform basic commands (sit/down)
-Approach people for petting without jumping
-Take treats nicely from hands without nipping/biting
-Be comfortable/calm in unfamiliar surroundings-including walking on slick floors, entering/exiting elevators, and comfortable around unfamiliar assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, oxygen)
-Accept having ears/feet/mouth touched/petted by strangers
-Be accepting of other dogs
-Willing to engage with strangers in a calm manner
*Current rabies vaccination record required*
Potential volunteers please note that the Flu is a very, very serious issue for our population of at-risk older adults due to their medical complexities and compromised immune systems. Therefore, all volunteers must be willing to accept the annual flu vaccination in order to volunteer/continue to volunteer in the ESMRC community. ESMRC will reimburse/pay for flu vaccination.
