Summary: The ABE Assistant will support student-tutor pairs, manage classroom materials, and act as a float tutor when needed.
Estimated Time Commitment: The shift will be 6 hours a week Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4:00-7:00pm for 6 months.
Qualifications:
- Some college is required
- Email is required
- Highly motivated
- Strong attention to detail
- Good communication skills
- Warm, inviting personality
Training & Supervision:
- Use basic functions of Microsoft Windows and Office
- Learn to track volunteer hours and data
- Learn about current programmatic processes to be able to correctly direct volunteers and answer questions
- Report to ABE Director or ABE Coordinator
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist program staff in schedule management
- Act as a resource and guide to ABE tutors & students
- Maintain respect and patience with a highly diverse population
- Assist in creating a comfortable and supportive atmosphere for other volunteers
- Track volunteer hours and other data
Goals:
- Create and maintain a supportive atmosphere for volunteers and students
- Provide excellent volunteer service to make all feel welcome, safe, and valued
