About Childhaven
Since 1909, Childhaven has been a safe and caring place for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in King County. Today, our early learning, early intervention, and counseling programs support positive outcomes for children and families in the communities we serve. OUR MISSION: We partner with parents and community to strengthen families, prevent childhood trauma and its damaging effects, and prepare children for a lifetime of well-being.
Classroom Volunteer
Classroom volunteers support teaching staff in a pre-school setting that focuses on therapeutic care for infants and children.

Responsibilities
- Cooperate with teachers to maintain the scheduled curriculum in the classroom.
- Be a positive role model for the children.
- Give children one-on-one attention in a supervised setting
- Participate in the planned classroom activities.
- Follow Childhaven policies and procedures.
- Treat agency staff and clients with the utmost courtesy and respect.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
- Responsible to Therapeutic Classroom Teachers
Qualifications
- Flexibility, patience, ability to work with young children
- Commit to at least 2-hour shift weekly during 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM Monday - Friday for a minimum of 6 months. Childhaven strives to provide a stable environment in the classrooms for the children.
- Attend orientation and complete required paperwork including obtaining a qualified Portable Background Check. This process can take 1 - 2 months. Fees for both the Portable Background Check and fingerprints will be the responsibility of the volunteer.
Training and Supervision
Volunteer orientation and training resources provided
- Supervision in classroom
- Learn about childhood development from a hands-on approach
- Assist with community service credit as needed

Childhaven offers early learning, early intervention and outpatient mental health services to children and families in King County. We believe in the effectiveness of interdisciplinary care that respects ongoing family needs and voice. Everyone on our team collaborates in partnership with the families they serve to ensure positive outcomes that are individualized and culturally relevant.

- We ask that volunteers commit to a weekly shift for a minimum of six months. This ensures consistency for the children in the classroom. Volunteer shifts are M-F between 10 AM – 3 PM.
