Here at Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut, we provide safe, decent and affordable housing to those in need. We have several opportunities to help on our Family SupportCommittee:

Training coordinator

  • Set schedule for training courses for future Homeowners to meet program requirements of becoming new homeowner of Habitat homes.
  • Communicate directly with future homeowners and instructors to confirm availability of instructors and future homeowners plans to attend upcoming classes. Confirm the availability of the place for the classes.
  • Cancel scheduled classes and alert instructors when no future homeowners when no future homeowners plan to attend.

Instructor

  • Each homeowner family is expected to complete a series of classes in preparation to their becoming a new homeowner. Some of these classes are offered on-line and some are taught by a volunteer instructor. We currently have an opening for an instructor to lead the class on financial sensibilities. This class introduces the concepts of budgeting, planning and the importance of treating saving like a regular ongoing expense that has to be paid just as mortgage payment or utility bill.
  • This instructor may also choose to become a member of the Homeowners Support Committee where they may become a partner to a specific new homeowner.

Homeowner Support Partner

  • Each homeowner family is also assigned Homeowner Support Partner who provides individualized support and encouragement as well as serves as a resource, mentor, and mediator throughout the program and for a period beyond the new homeowner actually moving into the new home.
  • Partners guide future homeowners through the application, education, construction and purchasing processes, and continues to support them once they become homeowners.

Please contact Volunteer Relations at volunteer@habitatect.org to express interest in any of the above opportunities.
