VOLUNTEER WITH CAMBRIDGE WILDLIFE (A GREEN CAMBRIDGEPROGRAM) FOR THE HONK PARADE - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13!

We need drivers, puppet managers and puppeteers day-of, as well as nonprofessional puppet-repair persons immediately.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

Prior to Oct. 13

  • On Sunday, Oct. 6, assist with puppet repair and costume making event at Fresh Pond
  • Between Oct. 6 and Oct. 10 mend our puppets so they are ready to march! We are looking for volunteers with some construction, art, engineering or sewing skills, as a group or by individuals. Level of repairs needed varies
  • On Oct. 10 we need two people who have vehicles to load up cars

On Oct. 13 volunteers are needed between 11:00 and 12:00 to:

  • Drive vehicles with puppets to arrive by 11:15 at parade launch
  • Help unload puppets and costumes from vehicles
  • Distribute puppets and costumes to advance registrants/masks to non-advance registrants
  • Help puppeteers put on puppets; march beside them to troubleshoot costume problems
  • Be on the TURTLE TEAM to arrange our snapping turtle puppet on skateboard or wagon
  • Take any excess costumes to a vehicle as the parade departs the site (if not marching)

On Oct. 13 after the parade, volunteers are needed between 1:30 and 3:30 to:

  • Wear costumes/puppets and roam Oktoberfest, giving out wildlife trading cards to children
  • Collect puppets and costumes in Harvard Square at 1:30. Keep them in good shape and reload back into (approximately 3) vehicles. Drop off locations include Cambridge Wildlife staff home and the Water Department at 250 Fresh Pond Parkway
  • Unload puppets at Water Department and assist rangers to bring them to storage area

We educate emerging generations on the urban flora and fauna found in our city through multi-generational celebrations.
