Are you looking for experience or do you want to brush up on your previous experience?

A respite volunteer is a person, pair, team or family who provides companionship and supervision of a child, teen, adult or senior that is no longer safe to be left at home alone. The time spent with the care receiver gives the caregiver a break to take care of their own needs. The volunteer does not provide medical or personal cares.

It gives you the volunteer an opportunity to learn about other cultures, knowledge of what it is like to be a caregiver, it gives the volunteer a chance to get comfortable spending one on one time with someone, or just being present at times. It can improve listening skills. You can learn about another generation. The volunteer may learn about different disabilities and then focus on abilities. The volunteer may learn how to help their own family members, volunteers have the chance to learn how people cope, The volunteer may gain more empathy for others. It's good for the volunteer's health. It's a great way to stay active. The volunteer may become an engaged community member. Most important it might be a lot of fun and you might make a new connection or friend.

I have been told you just need to ask people to help support others, so I'm asking.
It doesn't take a huge commitment and a lot of time. You can support a caregiver in either way - once a week for two hours or twice a month for four hours. We will try and match you as close to your home or work if its located in Washington County. There are needs during the day evening or weekend with seniors and early evening and weekend needs with children. It can be done alone, with a friend, with a partner, as a team or as a family.
