Wolfe Street Academy is looking for a Drama Coach! WSA is a Baltimore City Public Charter School located in Upper Fells Point. Our fully grant-funded After School program serves over 60% of the day school student population. The After School program runs Monday-Thursday from 2:30 to 6:00. This year the program is scheduled to run from September 30th to June 4th.

The goal of the WSA After School Program is to provide an inclusive, extended learning environment that supports and extends the day school curriculum and provides students with engaging and enriching experiences they would otherwise not have access to. The program does this through a 3-pronged approach. The three components of the program include Academics, Enrichments, and Electives.

The elective courses (i.e. clubs) are the "extras" that students may opt to participate in throughout the year. Our goal is to offer enough electives so that every student has the option to participate in at least one. Electives are taught by day school teachers, volunteers, and individuals through partnering programs like the BRIDGES instrument program. Electives are particularly important to the program as most of these activities would cost parents a great deal elsewhere. The types of electives offered each year also varies based on space, staffing, and student interest.

One of our longest-running and most popular clubs over the years has been the theater club. Originally run through a partnership with the Upper Fells Point Corner Theater. This club meets weekly for about an hour. The drama coach works with students from 2nd - 5th grade. Each year the club performs at our annual festival "Wolfest".

We are looking for a new drama coach to fill this role! This is a stipend-volunteer position. The volunteer receives a $1,000.00 stipend for their service to the school. The stipend is paid in two installments during the year. The club meets on Tuesday's from 4:15-5:30.

Interested candidates should email Tiffany at tlong@baltimorecp.org for more information.

Mission Statement

To develop, successfully implement and spread an innovative, sustainable, and replicable model of educational reform that will improve student outcomes while effecting systemic change. In doing so, the Baltimore Curriculum Project will raise the educational standards and possibilities for disadvantaged youth, Baltimore City schools and the Baltimore City school system alike.

Description

Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) was founded in 1996 with a single purpose: to transform the educational landscape in Baltimore City with research-based educational strategies, intensive teacher training, and extensive support for principals. BCP, in partnership with the Baltimore City school system, is the largest charter operator in Maryland with a network of some of the most highly acclaimed neighborhood charter schools in the state: Hampstead Hill Academy, Govans Elementary, Wolfe Street Academy, City Springs Elementary and Middle, and, new for the 2017-2018 school year, Frederick Elementary.

Wolfe Street Academy is a Community School and Conversion Charter School. We serve students and their families in the Upper Fells Point neighborhood, providing high quality academic programming and helping families develop resources that allow them to overcome barriers to success. Our school serves over 200 students from Pre-K to 5th grade on a site that has housed a succession of public schools since 1852. The buildings have changed but these schools have always served the most recent immigrant population who seek new and better lives in Baltimore. Over 80% of our students speak a language other than English at home and 96% of our students come from low-income households. Wolfe Street Academy has been offering its own comprehensive and robust after school program for 10 years.
