New Extension Master Gardener Course Announced!

Gain Access to World Class Gardening Knowledge. This 14-session curriculum will provide horticulture training based on university research. This training consists of approximately 45 hours of training with classes on:

* Plant science
* Lawns
* Vegetables * Soil science
* Integrated pest management
* Diagnostics
* Annuals and Perennials
* Woody ornamentals
* Small fruits
* Tree fruits
* Household and nuisance pests
* Gardening practices to protect water quality
* Volunteering teaching others how to garden, establishing vegetable gardens to meet local nutritional needs, and/or beautifying community sites

The cost of the 14-week program is $325, which includes the 1,000-page training manual and the Michigan State University Extension Volunteer Selection Process, background check.
Have An Opportunity to Serve. After completing the training, Extension Master Gardener (EMG) Certification is achieved with completion of 40 hours of horticulture-related, educationally focused volunteer service. Examples of volunteer projects and service may include: designing a school garden, designing and caring for gardens at senior centers, parks and other public sites,

The mission of the MSU Extension Master Gardener program is to further the land grant university goal of disseminating scientifically based information via a network of trained volunteers who receive support and guidance from MSU Extension specialists and educators in providing Michigan residents with the most current and environmentally sound horticulture information.

Description

Extension Master Gardener (EMG) volunteers are an important part of MSU Extension. They help expand Michigan State University’s outreach to individuals and communities across the state.
