Kitchen to Table is a unique monthly opportunity for culinary savvy volunteers! We are looking for volunteers to assist corporate groups prepare meals for our homebound clients. Ideal volunteers must have some culinary experience, background or interest, be able to instruct others and be personable. This opportunity would also assist with set up and break down of the event and is held once a month from 12:00 - 4:00 pm.

Ideal volunteers should also be able to stand on their feet for extended periods of time.

Improve the health and well being of Morris County residents in need by providing access to food, nutrition education and related resources; Provide hands on opportunities for neighbors to help neighbors; Educate the public about the issues of hunger in our area.

Description

Who Do We Serve?

The Pantry, which began in 1994 by supporting five families, is currently distributing more than 1, 173 pounds of food. In 2018, 977,615 pounds of produce was distributed and 2,745 people were served. The Pantry's clients are primarily senior citizens living on fixed incomes and low-income working families.

Applications are taken, and food is provided to anyone from Morris County in need. The Pantry gets referrals from many places including: churches and temples, hospitals, and schools as well as local agencies such as the New Jersey Battered Women's Shelter, Morris County Department of Human Services and the Interfaith Council for Homeless Families.

Our services to the community include; nutrition education, referrals to other community agencies, expanded hours for working families, Free Farmers Market (for clients only), Thanksgiving Program (turkeys and trimmings provided to all clients), backpack and school supply distribution, Kitchen To Table (donation based, team building experience) and education and civic engagement.

Information, Education, Volunteer Opportunities

Last, but not least, we feel it is important to provide information and education about the needs in our community as well as volunteer opportunities where people can feel they have actually made a difference. With this in mind we offer tours, orientation programs to youth and adult groups, make presentations at local churches and clubs, and provide volunteer projects for all ages.
