Mission Statement

SLCM Mission: To empower our neighbors in crisis to move toward stability and self-sufficiency. We do this by demonstrating respectful compassion; practicing faithful stewardship; and providing: emergency assistance with food, medicine, housing and utilities, comprehensive referral services and partnerships (individual, family and marriage counseling), daily enrichment services for senior adults

Description

South Louisville Community Ministries (SLCM) has a long history of service to families in the south end of Louisville. We were founded in 1975 by the churches in the area. We began in a small church office and have since expanded with programs that programs that range from a Food Pantry to Emergency Financial Assistance and from Medication Assistance to Meals on Wheels.
Our service area is an area rich in diversity that encompasses all of zip codes 40214, 40215, and 40209, and those families in 40208 who live south of Eastern Parkway. (With the exception of our food pantry which assists families in those zip codes that reside east of Taylor Blvd./New Cut Road only.) Within our boundaries you will find both Churchill Downs and an abundance of Section 8 housing, a vast array of ethnic restaurants and large number of seniors living on fixed-incomes. Here you will discover the beauty of Iroquois Park and the second highest poverty rate in the city (29.1%, double the national average). We serve approximately 2,000 men, women, and children every month, often with multiple and on-going services.
