Since 2012 Project Paws Alive has been providing vital protective equipment to underfunded K9 units nationwide. We service Law Enforcement, Fire, Search & Rescue and Military K9 teams. Equipment provided is all new and custom fit. Equipment donated includes but is not limited to: ballistic vests, cooling vests, first aid kits, narcan kits, and vehicle heat alarms. The need for this equipment continues to grow exponentially every year and we are seeking volunteers to help make an impact on these K9's lives.


Grant Writer:

This volunteer position is responsible for researching, developing, and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations, and will persuasively communicate Project Paws Alive’s mission and projects to potential funders. He or she will work with our President and VP to develop and lead funding campaigns from start to finish. Grant writer will use our Grant Tracking software to enter and maintain grant information such as deadlines. Access to grant research site will be provided. Volunteer will be given a short list of potential Foundations to start. Hours are flexible. This is a remote / work from home opportunity.

(Please note: We are seeking an experienced grant writer. We do not have the capacity to train on how to write grants.)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospective grants
  • Prepare, submit, and manage letters of inquiry and grant proposals
  • Coordination of all required information to be included in the grant proposal (with support from our leadership team)
  • Ability to tailor grant requests to fit grantor’s application requirements
  • Drive internal grant review and approval process with our leadership team
  • Grant finalization and submission
  • Maintain/enter accurate records in our grant tracking database for all grant requests and awards

Qualifications:

  • Prior grant writing experience writing is required
  • Clear and persuasive writing skills
  • Research skills for finding/assessing potential grantors (access to research sites will be provided)
  • Experience using Microsoft Word
  • Experience writing letters of inquiry is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and strong organizational skills
  • Self-starter, able to use independent judgment and take initiative
  • Ability to meet grant deadlines
  • Knowledge of GrantStation is a plus
  • Knowledge of other grant opportunities and resources is a plus
  • Must have access to your own computer, email, and phone
  • 18 years of age or older
  • All volunteers must submit to a criminal background check

Project Paws Alive is a nationwide 501c3 non-profit fundraising organization dedicated to providing customized ballistic stab and bullet-protective K9 vests, K9 first aid field trauma kits, K9 cooling vests, K9 vehicle heat alarms, and other vital K9 equipment to Law Enforcement, Fire, Search & Rescue, and Military K9s throughout the US who cannot otherwise afford this equipment.

The K9 equipment provided exceeds all NIJ and DOD requirements and is the best available. Most of the equipment we provide is military grade and is customized per each K9.

PPA is the only organization that provides K9 equipment to all four major working dog fields comprised of law enforcement, fire, search & rescue, and military K9 units nationwide.

We achieve this through private and corporate sponsorships, grants, and fundraising efforts.
