Volunteering is actually pretty simple. Devoting a few hours a month just got easier. At Compassus Hospice we have found that our caregivers, spouses, family members of patients just need a couple hours to run to the store, post office, bank, etc.
If you are able to carve out 3-4 hours per month we can assist you in simple ways to volunteer and give your time so that it is productive for our families.
10 Simple ways to volunteer:
Sit with patient
Read to patient
Play music from Youtube that was popular in patients teens or twenties
Be a compassionate presence for family - being there. Patient may be asleep but need companionship while family member does errands.
Organize kitchen so that patient can reach water, glasses for drinking, and or snack items.
Assist patient in making a phone call to a loved one or friend.
Are you crafty? Make a small lap throw for warmth or comfort.
Bring cookies or a favorite snack to patients home
Look through photo album of loved ones with patient
Make coffee or tea for patient
There are basic things many of our patients aren't able to do for themselves. When you donate your time it can make the biggest difference for them and provide assistance in a simple but important way for them.
We will train you and give you the necessary 2 step TB test at no cost to you. Must be 18 years of age
If you would be willing to donate a few hours each month, please contact me @ Deborah.booth@Compassus.com or reach me through our website.
