Beyond South America

This project has been going strong in Vila Acaba Mundo for several years and has hosted many volunteers before. Its goal is the development of children and young people through art. On their huge terrain they offer workshops in Urban Dances, Afro Dance, Contemporary Dance, Circus, Visual Arts, Percussion, Construction of Instruments, Video and Cinema and so on. In addition they offer the kids school support, organize gardening, sports, computer science and cooking courses for children. They also help the young people with finding a job after graduation and writing applications. They have been developing partnerships and have established a private education network to promote partial or full scholarships for the youngsters of Vila de Acaba Mundo.

Integrating the families and the community has been a priority. Over the years, the project got involved in numerous activities and grew into an important pillar of the community. They try to involve the parents as well through parent-meetings, free movie nights, family parties and other cultural events. Volunteers are involved in all kinds of activities here and what you will do here depends very much on your personal skills, wishes and above all on what is needed and the financial resources, because money is always tight.

Possible tasks: homework support, organizing sports classes, theater- music- or dance-workshops, gardening or recycling arts, a film project or organizing a cultural event, supporting the community center with social media or administrating their website.

Mission Statement

"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi - It may sound naïve, but we actually believe that volunteering can change the world for the better. Acts of solidarity, global learning and intercultural exchange break down borders that exist between cultures and in your own mind. Anyone who has ever worked in another country, who has given his time and energy to a good cause, knows that this can be an unforgettable experience, even a life changing moment. Your own impressions and the ones you leave in others, the learning experiences on both sides, bring the world closer together.

Beyond South America is a small nonprofit agency in Cochabamba, Bolivia. It all started in 2012 with a few volunteer positions at "Casa de la Alegria", a foundation that provides therapeutic workshops to youth- and childcare projects in and around Cochabamba.

We are still a small, familiar organization but have grown over the years and by now have partnerships in Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Guatemala. We are looking for enthusiastic, open-minded and skilled volunteers for a wide variety of positions in our handpicked projects.

The staff of Beyond South America have all lived their own lives of voluntary work all around the world, so we understand the needs of volunteers, their concerns and wishes. We also care about our collaborating organizations, we offer only sustainable projects, that guarantee safety and on site support for our volunteers.

We try to combine the needs of projects and volunteers with our work and work towards finding the right project for volunteers and the right volunteer for the projects. Therefore, we want to get to know you, learn more about your background, your abilities, desires and fears, in order to propose suitable projects to you.

Check out our vacancies and please note, that ALL the profit of Beyond South America still goes to the Foundation "Casa de la Alegría" supporting and sustaining their work. So volunteering with Beyond South America means, you contribute directly to a good cause, bettering the lives of children in Bolivia.
