Coming up on Saturday November 9, 2019 we have our annual Friendship Walks!
Friendship Walks is a 1.5 mile fun walk that takes place around the Lincoln Memorial and its reflecting pool area. We are in need of volunteers for that event. The opportunities for volunteering at the walk are multitude.
At the beginning of the day we could use your help unloading our vehicles at the Lincoln Memorial. Everything must be laid out on the ground single file so it can be inspected by police dogs. This would involve being at The Lincoln Memorial at 6:30AM. Once everything is cleared by police we'd then move all the materials near the reflecting pool where we'd begin the setup.
Another option is to assist with the registration tables. This is pretty self explanatory. Volunteers would just check people/teams in as they arrive
We also need volunteers along the 1.5 mile walk route to point people in the correct direction of The Walk route.
Then of course at the end of the event we would need assistance with tear down and pack up all materials and clear the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool area.

Mission Statement
At our core, our mission is to help people facing or at risk of homelessness to secure stable housing and embark on a new chapter in their lives. Our ultimate vision is for DC and beyond to be a place where everybody can find a place they can call "home."
Description
Friendship Place is staffed by over 100 people and has a wide reach in the DC Metro area. The highly successful programs have been given numerous awards, and help make a lasting difference in the lives of over 4,500 people yearly through street outreach, free medical and psychiatric clinic, including drop-in care, case management, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing for veterans and their families as well as job placement and specialized programs. Our program results have been incredibly successful, and various government and nonprofit organizations all over the country are studying our models to replicate our achievements.
Nonetheless, Friendship Place-supported by 26 congregations and more than 300 volunteers a year-retains the feel of a small, caring, neighborhood organization. The most commonly repeated refrain we hear from the people who come to us for help is this: "At other agencies, I felt like a number. At Friendship Place, I’m treated like a human being."
