Enhance your communications and management skills in supporting a dynamic and growing non-profit!
Volunteer Position Purpose:
To support ongoing administrative operational efficiency of a small but rapidly growing non-profit organization in a manner that promotes sustainability and best practices.
Responsibilities:
- General Office Maintenance and Hospitality: Keep office organized, stocked and running efficiently. Oversee office and hospitality supplies and ensure that stock is maintained.
- Administrative Support: Process mail (electronic and paper); update and maintain donor database, administrative records (both electronic and paper files) and support initial scheduling of meetings.
- Communication Support: Drafts or updates donor thank you communications for the ED’s review. Supports preparation for mailings to FFEN supporters as needed.
- Financial Operations Support: Supports consistent and smooth financial operations for the organization including processing of donations and invoices as well as communication with FFEN staff and board members responsible for organizational finances.
- Process Documentation: As needed, draft or update FFEN process documentation to ensure sustainable approaches by the organization.

Position Requirements:
- Comfortable working and communicating with a wide variety of people (staff, board, volunteers).
- Basic proficiency with Excel, Word and email, with a willingness to learn new technologies as needed.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, flexible work environment and take initiative to meet project goals.
Time Requirements & Schedule:
- Total Time Requirement: Estimated 3 hours per week
- Project Start and End Date: Ongoing with immediate start, preference for a minimum 6 month commitment
- Schedule: Flexible but balanced across FFEN’s office hours: Monday-Thursday 8am to 4pm
- Work Site: FFEN Offices: 701 North 3 rd St, Suite 203, Mpls, MN 55401
- Status: Volunteer Administrative Assistant - Monetarily Unpaid

Foundation For Essential Needs (FFEN) is an entrepreneurial, innovative and nimble nonprofit focused on increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of local food shelves. FFEN engages skilled, pro-bono volunteers to offer pragmatic, no-cost consultation and equipment improvements to food shelves adapting to meet the changing needs of their community. Since 2013, FFEN has positively impacted over 200 food shelves in Minnesota. This local work informs FFEN’s broader efforts in supporting both professional development opportunities and advocating for systems change at the local, regional and statewide levels. FFEN’s multi-level approach is essential to creating a statewide hunger relief sector that ensures both equitable access to healthy food and respect for the dignity of those who receive it.
