Do you have a passion for helping others?

Behind the scenes volunteering 1-3 hrs. a week or a month, nights and weekend opportunities available, which requires an hour of training.

Flexible volunteer hours.. days..nights..weekends.. you choose

Job Description includes:

-sort supplies and donations

-pick up donations

-shelter maintenance (painting, raking, cleaning)

-on call maintenance to fix plumbing issues, or fix a fence

-fundraising help (set up, clean up, planning)

-Ambassador-recruit for Empower Hour

-Board member

Mission Statement

The mission of the Wichita Family Crisis Center is to eliminate domestic violence in our community by supporting survivors through shelter, education, and advocacy.

Description

Formerly known as the YWCA Wichita, the Wichita Family Crisis Center is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation that began operations in 1907 as a chartered member of the YWCA USA. The first residence was established for single women who were traveling or staying away from home; women entering the workforce were provided with employment aide; and a lunchroom was opened for working women that provided an economical and well-balanced meal.

The organization opened the Women’s Crisis Center, Wichita’s first emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence, in August 1976 with the primary goal to empower, strengthen and stabilize families impacted by domestic violence.

In 2016, the organization officially changed its name to the Wichita Family Crisis Center to better reflect its local mission. The Wichita Family Crisis Center has an annual operating budget just over $1 million and offers services for more than 1,200 individuals who are fleeing domestic violence in Sedgwick County, Kansas each year.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Orientation or Training
  • Indirect Service Volunteers are able to volunteer as their schedule allows. We are currently looking for weekly and monthly volunteers to commit to serving 2-4 hours at a time. Indirect Service Volunteers can serve as an individual or as groups.
  • Application, back ground check, and interview are required before training.
