ORGANIZATION: WELCOME FRIENDS OF GREATER PORT JEFFERSON, INC.

We are looking for a competent Volunteer Coordinator to recruit prospective volunteers for various positions within the organization. This person will work closely with Coordinators from each of our soup kitchen locations to match jobs with potential volunteers.

This individual must have a pleasant and outgoing personality and excellent organizational skills. The position requires the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experience.

The responsibilities will include

  • Sourcing and recruiting volunteers through various techniques (databases, e-mail, social media etc.)
  • Communicating frequently with site Coordinators to ensure the volunteers are satisfied and well-placed
  • Collecting information on available opportunities and determining skills that are needed
  • Disseminating information for upcoming actions and events

The goal is to ensure that our organization is always staffed with the best and most reliable individuals.

Mission Statement

For over 30 years, our outstanding volunteers have addressed hunger in the Greater Port Jefferson and surrounding communities. Our soup kitchens have dynamic relationships with individual supporters, local food markets, farm stands, religious institutions, community leaders and local government. Welcome Friends strives to ensure that our guests need not fear the loss of meals. We create a sense of community for neighbors affected by hunger and poverty by serving them with dignity and respect in a safe, hospitable environment.

Description

Welcome Friends provides hot, nutritious meals four days a week in the Greater Port Jefferson community. We typically serve between 50 to 70 guests each night (3,000+ annually!). We are a 100% volunteer staffed organization, so every donation goes directly to serving our neighbors in need.

***We do not serve a meal on Thanksgiving or Christmas***
