Hello!
The Westborough Public Schools' "Bridging Over to Right Opportunities (BORO)" Program is a transition program for students 18-22 with special abilities who continue to be eligible for services and support as they make the transition into adulthood. We teach independent living and vocational skills and seek to secure paid employment for our wonderful, skilled students in their home community. Our facility also houses the "Sugar Shack", which is an on-site vocational learning lab and fully-functional retail candy store in downtown Westborough. All profits from the store support the BORO Program.
We are looking to create a list of fun-loving and caring people who are interested in helping out at some of the social and program events that we will be holding this year and in the future. This would not require a regular commitment- you can be as involved as you'd like. A variety of interests and skills is welcome. Experience with special needs is a plus but not required.
If you are interested, please contact Erin LaPrad, Program Coordinator, at laprade@westboroughk12.org. Thanks!

Mission Statement
The BORO Program provides services and support to students ages 18-22 with special abilities as they are making the transition into adulthood. The core value of our program is to successfully launch students into career, college, and work opportunities within their home community, where they have the best opportunities to thrive.
Description
Public schools must educate students with complex learning needs from the ages of 3-22. Westborough Public School’s major overhaul of its post-high school transition program began with the decision to move the program from inside Westborough High School to a new home. After scouting several sites, WPS settled on a newly vacated property right off the Westborough rotary. The BORO Program (Bridging Over to Right Opportunities) opened in the fall of 2017. Students in the BORO program follow individual paths, including attending local community colleges, performing volunteer and paid work in the community, and learning daily living skills such as travel training, budgeting, cooking, healthy living and stress release.
An essential component of the BORO Program is the BORO Sugar Shack; a candy and gift store that serves as an on-site learning lab for the students to learn job-related skills in a real business setting.
