RAMP Program Mentor Job Description
Title: Volunteer Mentor, RAMP Program, Urban League of Greater Madison
A Mentor with the Urban League’s Retaining, Advancing and Mentoring young Professionals (RAMP) Program is looking for people who are; passionate about developing the next generation of leadership, willing to pass on their expert advice, become a trusted friend, advisor and guide to fellows participating the RAMP Program. Mentors help to ensure that the program fellows develop important professional academic and skills, are exposed to new opportunities and expand their professional network, complete a professional development plan, assist them with navigating internships and job shadowing as they complete the RAMP Program with a plan for continuing to achieve their career advancement goals.
Essential Function/Responsibilities
The Mentor’s Responsibility to RAMP Fellows:
Be able to commit to spending at least one year in a relationship with a student. Spend at least five - eight hours a month engaged in a mutually agreed-upon activities with their RAMP Fellows
Communicate with their RAMP Fellows bi-weekly-by telephone, email or social media-to keep in touch about what is going on within their professional and personal lives as agreed upon
Honor, all commitments made to RAMP Fellows and the RAMP Program
Be respectful of RAMP Fellows’ time, opinions, and decision-making
Serve as a positive role model by modeling desirable professional behaviors
Be comfortable and able to establish appropriate boundaries with RAMP Fellows
Be encouraging and supportive of the RAMP Fellows.
Help the RAMP Fellows to develop a Career Advancement Plan for moving upward within their career.
Responsibilities to the RAMP Program Coordinator:
Attend Mentorship Training Sessions
Check-in with the program staff once a month.
Attend on-going trainings when needed or requested to do so by program staff.
Be patient and understand the mentoring relationship is a process that takes work and time.
Qualifications
All volunteers must:
Be over 21 years of age.
Have xx years of industry experience
Submit an application, 2 references, a copy of a photo ID and an auto insurance card.
Pass a background check
Successfully complete an interview for a mentor position with the RAMP Program coordinator
Exhibit a genuine concern for developing emerging professionals
