This is your opportunity to help a child learn to read who might otherwise not succeed. KidsQuest is a free tutoring program offered by LearningQuest for dyslexic children from 2nd to 6th grade who have been diagnosed through testing by a reading specialist. The tutoring will take place at the Modesto Library two times a week for an hour each time between 3 and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Volunteers must go through training provided by LearningQuest on the explicit and scripted curriculum which is Barton Reading and Spelling System. The website has an inquiry form for tutors at the url of www.lqslc.com/kidsquest. Volunteers are also required to pass a background check and must be able to commit to providing the tutoring twice a week for at least six months.

The next opportunity for training is October 12, so sign up soon if you want to be part of launching this program which is much needed by the young children of Stanislaus County.
