Have a few hours each month to make a real difference in someone's life? Typically our volunteers visit with hospice patients and provide conversation, read aloud, play cards or music, or simply sit in a home and provide presence so caregivers have a brief break each week- due to COVID-19, these opportunities are now limited. Even so, your gift of time can make all the difference in someone's life- including yours!
Would you be willing to join us and participate through remote and/or virtual interaction? You can train online from the comfort of your home via our scheduled Zoom trainings. Credentialing can be managed via brief interactions utilizing CDC social distancing guidelines. Once complete, you'll be writing a specific patient or providing thoughtful notes and cards for nursing home residents who can really use a reminder that they haven't been forgotten.
This is a great opportunity with complete flexibility, making it a great fit for both year round or seasonal residents. Whether you want to connect with one special family or bring cheer to residents at an Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing facility, we have the perfect opportunity for you to use your life experiences to honor and bless another. Cornerstone Hospice's mission is simple: Delivering extraordinary care to every person we touch in every community we serve. Volunteer opportunites are available throughout the seven Central Florida counties we serve: Hardee, Highlands, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk and Sumter, and now in Cobb County, Georgia. If you live in a neighboring county, you can still volunteer. However, all of your volunteer activities will take place in one of our seven counties, typically the one closest to you. PLEASE NOTE: Even if you are interested in several different volunteer roles within our organization, you only need to click on one opportunity during this process. You will have a chance to discuss ALL of your areas of interest during your volunteer training. Thanks!
Cornerstone Hospice volunteers are a vital part of our entire organization, and play an active role in helping to provide the many special comfort and support services that distinguish Cornerstone Hospice care.
Our volunteers are special, but not out of the ordinary. They are regular people just like you. They use common sense and understanding. They do not need a medical background. They listen. They care. Volunteers help make a patient's life more fulfilling and satisfying by giving their time, understanding, and support and asking nothing in return. They also provide support to caregivers who are often with the patient 24/7 and may need a much needed break. If direct care is not for you, you can assist with administrative tasks at our office locations, and help out with events and community outreach. Any Cornerstone Hospice volunteer will tell you that they feel they receive more from their experience than they give.
PLEASE NOTE: All volunteers are required to go through a training class with additional training required for some positions. For this reason, becoming a Cornerstone Hospice volunteer is typically not appropriate for court related community service hours or other short-term requests. Ideally, our volunteers commit to at least one year with us.
