Orange County Shooting Stars is currently in need of coaches for our Fall/Winter 2019/2020 season.
Details:
Ages: 6-13 (three divisions)
- 8U: (ages 6-8)
- 11U: (ages 9-11)
- 13U: (ages 12-13)
Time Commitment: 2 hours per week
- 1 hour practice per week on Wednesday or Thursday nights at the American Sports Center in Anaheim (1500 S. Anaheim Blvd. Anaheim, CA 92805) between 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
- 1 hour game per week on Saturday afternoons/evenings (time depends on division) at the gym at Covenant Christian School in Orange (1855 N. Orange-Olive Rd. Orange, CA 92865).
Season Length: 14 weeks
- Includes first practice, seven week regular season, holiday breaks, playoffs, and closing ceremonies.
- First practices = November 13th/14th
- First games = November 23rd
- Thanksgiving break = November 24th - November 30th
- Holiday break = December 22nd - January 4th
- Last day of season = February 8th
Other Details:
- 8 to 10 kids per team.
- Mix of experienced and beginner players.
- 4 to 8 teams per division.
- Teams play by high school rules/regulations (only differences = game clock + substitution and full court pressure rules [8U division only]).
- Hard working and motivated kids eager to learn and soak up as much basketball knowledge as possible before they go on to play basketball at a higher level/tryout for their high school teams.
Requirements:
- Must have either played high school basketball or have at least two seasons worth of youth basketball coaching experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be reliable/able to attend all practices and games.
- Must be able to create and run weekly practices that are both engaging and productive and that focus on the fundamentals of the game of basketball as well as team strategies.
- Must possess good communication skills and be able to not only instruct the players but to motivate and encourage them as well.

Mission Statement
Orange County Shooting Stars’ mission is to provide children in our community with a safe place to learn, play, and enjoy the game of basketball. By doing this, we aim to teach all of our players the fundamentals of the game of basketball and to develop their individual and team skills so that they can go on to play basketball at a more competitive level (i.e. Club, AAU, High School, College, etc) either now or in the future. Players who participate in our program not only develop their skills on the court, but off of the court as well, as they are taught sportsmanship, character, and leadership skills that they can carry with them throughout their lives. Players also have a great and memorable experience while participating in our program as well!
Description
Orange County Shooting Stars is a non-profit youth basketball program that is run by experienced coaches and that is for beginning and advanced boys and girls basketball players ages 6 to 13. Our program consists of a competitive developmental league as well as an interactive skills clinic that are both run during the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. Since forming in 2011, we have served over 2000 children in Orange County and other surrounding areas. As our program continues to grow, we are looking to recruit more volunteers (all of our coaches are volunteers) to help us carry out the goals that we have set for our organization as well as our players.
