About Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter (JDRF)

Mission Statement

Founded in 1970 by the parents of children with diabetes, JDRF's mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

Description

JDRF is the world's leading non-profit, non-governmental contributor to diabetes research. JDRF is dedicated to finding a cure for juvenile diabetes, which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependant for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.

While insulin allows a person to stay alive, it does not cure diabetes nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating effects. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, non-traumatic amputations, as well as a leading cause of nerve damage, stroke, and heart attacks.

Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $800 million to diabetes research worldwide. More than 80 percent of JDRF' expenditures directly support research and education about research. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
