Roughly 30% of food donated to Marion Polk Food Share comes from grocery stores through our Retail Recovery program. Grocery stores donate produce, dairy and refrigerated items when these products are nearing their peak freshness. Our team needs your help to sort and repack all of this food before it can move from our cooler to our neighbors' homes!

There are a few ways to support the Retail Recovery Program:

Sorting and Repacking Donated Food:
It takes a lot of volunteer support to sort and repack all of this food so that it can be distributed through our network of food pantries. Sign up for a shift and help feed our community!

Shifts are available 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm Monday through Friday.

Prep Totes to Receive Donations:
Store employees fill hundreds of plastic totes each day that get picked up by Food Share drivers. After the donated food has been picked up from the stores and sorted, the totes that the food arrives in need to be washed so that they can be returned to the store to receive more donations.

Shifts are available between 1:00pm and 4:00pm Monday through Friday.

Thank Your Local Grocery Store!
Don't have room in your schedule to add a volunteer shift right now? Every major grocery store in the area is donating to Marion Polk Food Share, be sure to thank them for their community care next time you are out shopping!

Contact Amy Hammerstrom at ahammerstrom@marionpolkfoodshare.org or call 503-581-3855 with any questions or to sign up for a shift!
